Yeah I just beat the main boss of the first zone. It's pretty stylish and good looking, but the combat feels a bit imprecise to me. Maybe the perspective is part of the problem? Like sometimes I could have sworn I should have batted back a projectile but it either just passed through me or knocked me down. I said in the general videogames thread it reminded me of Hyper Light Drifter from watching gameplay and that's definitely the case after playing it, especially with sections where waves of enemies keep spawning in and you have to take them out to progress, but HLD felt more satisfying and mixed up the ranged combat with melee better I thought.
yeahh, combat kinda sucks. Granted I’m only a few hours in on the first zone, but it just doesn’t feel great. Weird Zelda / souls-like combo, not especially varied as far as battles, and the humor/story is not really hitting for me. HLD def did the combat combo better.
I really wish they'd mixed up the enemy style more thoroughly in each distinct area - there's a lot of almost palette swapping so you're avoiding the same attacks from slightly different-looking enemies, and sometimes the same enemies show up everywhere (those blue wizards turn up all the time for instance). I will say the soundtrack is excellent though - there's one section of a water zone where there aren't too many enemies and it's getting you used to the mechanics that's extremely chill, and I love the Avarice theme.
It is mating season for the pterosaurs, and this well-endowed male wants YOU to fly with him.
The way critics are talking about Death's Door make me feel like it is meant to be the next Must Play Indie like a Hollow Knight but reviews of people playing it seem to put it more in the Fine, Good But Not Super Essential category that I'm trying to stop buying just to put in my backlog
So I appreciate the posts about it itt
