finally beat the final final boss on octopath traveler. it's actually a really great boss fight, just badly implemented into the game.

glad i can finally draw a line under this game and never play it again.

cuphead or dark souls next, after a break

How are you feeling about SteamWorld Quest?

I thought SteamWorld Dig 1 was a pretty fun if short glorified flash game, Dig 2 was definitely good but also short and Heist was really good, buuttt

I wonder how their games will hold up when it isn't just the best thing going on a small eshop... and the graphics/constant swaying thing is starting to look pretty dated....

it looks great and i will buy it because every other game they've put out has been great AND i love turn-based RPGs with card mechanics

unless, of course, reviewers pan it

damn you guys are wrong on octopath, that game is great. graphics/music/battle system, that game is absolute balm, baby. wish it had more side stuff and was longer. could definitely have a better story but i kinda liked the saccharine JRPG style of the characters.

octopath is fine for what it is...the resentment of it is because a lot of us we're really stoked for it based on the initial reveal and demo and expected better than how the final product was or whatever

i just wouldn't pay 50 bones for it

Just beat Fire Emblem: Awakening the first Fire Emblem game I've ever played :ugeek:

I didn't play it on hardcore where if a character dies they die forever but really I didn't have that many people die. It was reallllly fun but realllllly long

:P

there's a lot to love about both of those, honestly.

if you love old school, 16-bit era JRPGs then you'll enjoy Octopath....for 10 - 15 hours. then you realize that you have to play every character's chapter to grind everyone enough to make progress, and that each of those chapters is structured exactly the same.

if you love sprawling, epic modern RPGs then you'll enjoy Xenoblade...as long as you also enjoy problematic female character designs, terrible menus/UI, and a gacha-style, randomized system for obtaining critical blades.

Ha thanks for the recs.

Dragon's Dogma looks cool and cheaper than Octo/Xenoblade.

Maybe I'll just get a Final Fantasy though.

Cheap and I've never played IX

it’s worth noting that grinding in octopath really doesn’t take that long and is pretty enjoyable because of the exciting and competitive nature of the battle system. it’s a throwback but a really good one.
