You kinda have to handicap yourself to make it challenging. Avoid as many map encounters as you can basically.

Once DQ hooks u it's the most comforting game series there is. :3
I have it on PC and I'm jealous of all the Switch people who basically got an upgraded version.

I seem to pick up tropical freeze every two months and beat the level i was stuck on, then get stuck on another until i quit for another two months. This happens at a very consistent rate -- dkc games have always been strangely difficult for me but i love david wise and ultimately the music keeps me coming back

thought the postgame was a huge let down, i don’t think it’s clear enough the actual moons you’re supposed to get from challenges, or how many moons a world has, or even how many moons YOU have, cuz you can just buy them infinitely?

haven’t thought about odyssey since i beat it.

yeah, to be fair I thought it was a really solid game and worth it's value just for the main game, but I seem to recall a lot of folks at the time saying "the post game content is just as good as the main game!" and that's not at all been my experience

sunshine and m64 are the only other 3d marios I've played extensively but feel like they had a nice flow where returning to the earlier levels once you'd skilled up was a fresh experience with new challenges, whereas with this one I mostly pick up a level I haven't revisited in a while and am just like yep, I see why I skipped these moons

luigi's balloon challenge seems like it would be fun but the way it's set up to make it inconvenient to scout out the level before taking on a balloon (and dis-incentivizes multiple attempts) is really annoying if you're not intimately familiar with the levels going in, which I'm def not when I just want to pick it up after some downtime and do some quick fun lil missions

I definitely thought the "post-game" (I think that's a bit disingenuous given that more than half of the game is described by that) was the best part of the game. I will happily do every single sub-task in a Mario game though, so I'm probably not a useful advocate to listen to one way or another. I loved all the worlds and really enjoyed just exploring them over and over again trying to get every moon.

Yeah. I should go back and replay. My daughter was playing a couple of months in New Donk City and I had no desire to revisit it.

I’m totally fine with the "d-pad" in handheld aside from the awkward ergonomics

it's the way you can easily roll over the pro d-pad and eg. activate up/down while holding right that is driving me crazy

I have a pro controller and def dislike the dpad despite everything else about it being great...I think im finally gonna get one of those 8bitdo SN30 pro+s

d pads on them are supposedly great and theyre also like 20 bucks or so cheaper than the ridiculous price of nintendos pro controller

8BitDo's m30 is the greatest 3rd party dpad ever made.
yeah it's a genesis pad, but it makes the sn30 (which i still very much enjoy) look bad
