mario makers wiiu servers are still going strong, i'll check in every now and then now that my kid is into level making. that's how fucking deep that game is, that people still turn on their wiiu to play it.

i have to assume the issue with mario maker on the switch is nailing the touch controls undocked AND the cursor/motion sensing docked aspect. a lot of folks seem convinced that rather than a port, there's going to be an all-new mario maker switch coming this year. that would be rad.

There are people who claim that NSMBWU is up there with Super Mario World, which is absurd. It's a pretty mediocre game imo.

I think it's generally accepted that New Super Luigi U is better than NSMBU

There's a pretty wide quality gap in the NSMB franchise. NSMB2 for 3DS I think is bottom tier.

its a pretty charming but short metroidvania-ish platformer with decent difficulty and really good spritework. i have no idea how much it is, think i got it on steam for 5 bux and liked it a lot.

dark souls is really fun but its too hard so i'm giving up until i have more time to dedicate to it. which is maybe never. im after a game that is chill and open ended. just want a 3 dimensional virtual world i can get lost in every now and then while vaping. so i bought skyrim. never played an elder scrolls

i played like 60 hours of breath of the wild and ruined it by giving into my lizard brain that instructed me to max out my gear in every direction. i plan to return in a year or so when it is forgotten

the combat in BOTW was really dogshit, though luckily almost entirely optional. If I ever pick it up again i'm strictly building up stamina and just exploring.

yeah i've done one divine beast and since then i'm just runnign all over the map exploring and leveling up and seeing how much i can do without progressing anything.

it's super fun to see how far into an area you can get when you're drastically under-leveled for it

botw is kind of underwhelming for me so far. the open world is p good and pretty but the fighting is awful, the rain is annoying, and i hate the weapons system. idk its fine and i have fun sometimes but its a let down and i wish i hadnt payed $60 for it. im only at the first divine beast but i feel like thats far enough to make a judgement.

i'm in the middle of playing dark souls for the first time right now and it's fingerprints are all over BOTW but man they didn't get anything right about the combat. BOTW basically requires you to parry or fight certain enemies in one very specfic way and makes it extremely tedious, in DS I haven't parried once and i'm getting along fine.

Yea I seem to be getting towards the end of Hollow Knight on Switch and just deliberately not going for the last big story boss because I’m having too much fun with it. Best game I’ve played in a long while, the exploration in particular is so satisfying - I love how every little corner is jammed with interesting little detours, tough mini platforming challenges, or a seemingly inauspicious corridor will suddenly lead to a whole new area I hadn’t found yet. And the rewards for exploration are so often tangible and exciting - cool charms to try out, sparingly doled out upgrades to life or damage, enticing keys - unlike so many other exploration-heavy games, BOTW included.

botw ain’t perfect but it’s one of the best games of all time. i am almost done playing through it again on master mode (haven’t finished the second dlc or finished my gear yet, but i got all 120 shrines and three DB) and it was just as incredible a second time. i’m farming star fragments which essentially involves waiting and looking around during full moon nights and it is nothing but good vibes. love every inch of that whole world and every detail they mananged to cram.

the open world game it reminds me the most of is MGSV, weirdly. the world itself is very well done and i like how there seems to genuinely be different ways to solve problems you encounter in it
