Saw both way after the rest of the country, but Nightcrawler was better than Birdman and deserved the lion's share of hype

Loved every bad choice made in this film, up to and including the music

Definitely one of my favorites this year
And I feel like this year is really about, just the year of realizing stuff.

yo this movie rocked, best black comedy since american psycho

don't get people complaining about the score. thought it fitted well with the photography and gave the whole thing a kinda michael mann vibe.

jg's acting was nuts, probably my favourite performance since joaquin in the master. definitely a lot of travis bickle and rupert pupkin in there. that scene near the beginning where he's trying to sell himself to get a job felt like a direct homage to the "anytime, anywhere" scene in taxi driver.

also, did anyone else think he looked exactly like a younger richard lewis?

I didn't really notice the score other than the parts that sounded a bit like Bardo Pond which I liked and thought fitted in well.

Both are pretty solidly in the B range for me. Think Nightcrawler has considerably more interesting things to say but the execution left something to be desired.

Would re-watch both tho

Saw this today. Really really liked it.

I'd say my only complaint would be the soundtrack. Kind of baffling how ill-fitting it was.

Think I'm only going to talk to my boss in Lou-isms now.

I'm totally with this. There were some seriously inappropriate songs played at times.

Did I weigh in on the soundtrack? For me, the soundtrack didn't pull off the tonal weirdness trick anywhere near as fluidly as Nightcrawler did overall. I didn't "get it" with the music cues. Might on second viewing, I could see that happening.

I think that soundtrack felt sort of melancholy at times which seemed to suggest that the audience should feel some amount of empathy. Something Lou - as a high functioning sociopath - can't feel. So it didn't really match up for me.

But the composer had a really hard job. A score that was more dark and throbbing a la DRIVE would've felt too on the nose and wouldn't match the pitch black comedic elements. Arrangements that had tipped more towards the saccharine would've felt farcical. Not sure what it needed really.

I dunno, some low-hanging fruit was definitely picked here

Jake G's character and performance were fabulous though and thankfully that was what drove the movie

Gonna need a gif of him watching that movie towards the beginning

finally saw this
really good. the american psycho comparison is spot on, but i feel like both are kind of hampered by their dark comedy from being real master works. but its also what makes em good so i duno

should have ended in the control room w/ the silhouettes in profile as someone mentioned.

this movie felt an hour long, i loved it

it felt like a riff on the idea of the corporation (and the entrepreneurs that start them) as a psychopath, and local news just happened to be a fascinating way to explore that.
