you are fucking joking
like i realize i need to adjust my standards and shit and like, if I get annoyed at a bar for feeling evocative of LA in 2014 i'm probably not going to have any fun at bars in la in 2014
that said though man all i've ever done at bigfoot west is be annoyed by shitty crowds and, I dunno I guess be glad that drink prices arent quite as much of a scam as they could be
i've only been to bigfoot east once, this most recent halloween
the crowd was bad and the bar was unremarkable but they got david J from bauhaus to do a spoken word thing over 2 sitar players so as far as things go I guess that's probably the best thing in my hood
they 86'ed my friend for trying to sell the owner mushrooms though so that sucked

i guess my only gripe with bigfoot that isnt unfair or just me being a grump really is theyre both always packed to the fuckin gills
i like monty bar and i've had an okay time at footsies, club tee gee in my neighborhood is good enough, tiki-ti fuckin slays but i couldnt exactly be a regular there
i guess its just that any of those bars could cease to be an option tomorrow and i wouldnt blink, i only lived in austin for 6 months and i can think of like 3 bars i would be really fuckin sad to hear closed down

i pretty much like it because it has an outdoor porch area
but it's pretty good tequila and i consistently have a decent time there.
edit: it's kind of got a shit aesthetic and it's not that dive-y, which i think is more in line with what you're looking for.

Monty is a cool bar in Westlake. not many people know of it, it seems. i bet it will be very popular in the next few years. the owners have other spots in LA, iirc, and it's a long term thing. i also heard that the W is going to be a hotel right off MacArthur park sometime in the next 10 years.
i live downtown next to where they built the Ace Hotel, and i need to leave very soon because everything is getting expensive and crowded and louder. i'm thinking highland park or culver city, which are very very different but i am drawn to both for different reasons.

its really weird driving everywhere
like the idea of going 25 minutes by car to somewhere that exists for you to get drunk at
like i dont want to allocate all that money to lyft or drive hammered so i pretty much just go to the one decent bar near me
in sf or austin i probably wouldnt go in but all things considered i am actually incredibly lucky to be so close to club tee gee in atwater
i mean lucky is relative but i'm internet dating again so i need bars i guess

i really don't drive much at all anymore. i live downtown so i take the bus a lot and just listen to podcasts or listen to music and i'm a lot less angry when i get to destinations.
at night, yeah the one bud thing is a lot more of a thing here than other cities. it makes for a pretty bizarre nightlife. there are a lot of disparate scenes going on.
but yeah, as i've mentioned in the other LA thread, Uber X seems to be cheaper here than in other cities i've used it in. from Downtown to the airport costs me between 25 and 35. a cab is around 60.

i have a car and have been driving in this city since i was in high school, but using the public transportation here has really changed a lot. not many people can use it due to its pretty terrible structure, so i guess i'm lucky.

my phone has a problem with texts so even though uber and lyft work just fine i cant receive the verification texts so i cant activate them, apparently their customer service departments suck because i emailed both like over a month ago and neither one responded beyond an auto-responder
i worked customer support at a tech company for 3 years so i guess this is karma for the times i just let things fall behind the desk because i didnt know how to fix the problem

my experience with uber customer service has been ok, i guess. once i got them to reverse a charge one time where the guy forgot to "end the trip." that didn't work another time. after reading shit on the internet and talking to a bunch of the drivers, i have a lot of issues with uber but w/e that's a different/boring thread.
