have the new Washington Blvd bike lanes in Culver been discussed here yet? they've replaced an entire lane of traffic which has now created hour-long windows where it's literally impossible to to make turns onto Washington from National. I've adjusted my commute but it seems like a really poorly conceived decision

I have to hit up Hi Lo Liquor every Tuesday for work and that street has been fucked up for the last 3 or 4 weeks. I don't understand what the rationale for that decision was

yeah lol
i live a just east of culver, and getting through downtown culver has been an absolute nightmare for the last few weeks, and it's compunded the already bad traffic around la cienega and la brea between jefferson and obama
i thought it was just temporary/covid-related or some really extensive construction but no, it seems permanent!

I thought it was a Culver City decision as it seems like there's a long project to make schools in the area more accessible by walking/cycling but the same-size bike lanes were put in on Adams where I live, which is LA City. those made sense on Adams because Adams rarely gets congested but it's a bananas decision for that stretch of Washington.

also hello fellow Hi-Lo friend, I wonder if our paths have crossed before. if you've seen someone carefully arranging items at the register so the bar codes all perfectly face the person scanning that was probably me lol

word, we probably live right around each other.

I asked one of the Hi-Lo guys about it last time I was there and they're all just as baffled. Washington & National is basically a pileup now during rush hour so avoid that intersection at all costs unless you want the cameras to photograph you making lefts on red and blocking oncoming traffic because there's literally no other way to get through there now.

giving protected lanes to bikes and buses and causing congestion is good praxis

i agree it's good and they should do more of it
they also shut down a massive stretch of la brea to put in a dedicated bus lane, which is also good and something i will absolutely be taking advantage of
