About to finish Chaos by Tom O'Neil. It's about Charles Manson. Previous to me reading this, I didn't care about Manson at all, but Tom O'Neil did some fantastic work uncovering what certainly appears to be CIA and FBI grooming of Manson. Manson visited the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic pretty much everyday when he was living in SF, the same clinic where a Dr. Jolly West had an office. Jolly West was one of the biggest scientists doing research for MKULTRA. That doesn't even scratch the surface of all the weird shit that went on in that case. I really suggest checking it out if you're interested in intelligence operations and the CIA.

Going to read The Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins after I'm done. Gotta keep rotting my brain learning about the crimes of the CIA.

Connie Willis's Blackout/All Clear - there's a great 400 page time travel novel hidden inside 1100 pages of numbing repetitiveness

energy flash: a journey through rave music and dance culture - simon reynolds
had never read this one, surprisingly. it's essentially a rockist history of rave. I may have taken a lot of this book as gospel when I was younger, but these days I can spot some obvious flaws in reynolds' views. regardless of how dated it can be at times, there are more than enough salient points to make it worth a read to any budding dance fan or longtime nerd who just wants to brush up on this era

same. board lejend ash took me to an intimate happy hardcore warehouse rave in los angeles the other week, and I can happily report that raves are alive and well, even if the good ones are too few & far between

didn't know this series existed but I stumbled on this 70s one in a neighborhood free book box, and it was absolutely fascinating. day-by-day chronicle of the development of flying circus, holy grail, jabberwocky, and life of brian

Image

just started this one and it's also great, although its chronicling an era that I'm less interested in. but love reading about the making of time bandits and meaning of life. haven't gotten to the fish called wanda part yet
