ooo good answer, not sure I have time for a 2 1/2 hour movie right now, but I'll def download it for later.

I think I'll just finish A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, now that I think about it.

The Lonergan cut is 3h6m. I actually haven’t seen that one but he was just on WTF talking about how much better it is.

I've only ever seen the Lonergan (long) cut of Margaret. From what I've read about the shortened version, I do think Lonergan's cut is kind of essential (at least in terms of what I love about the movie).

Yeah, pretty fucked up and sorta great if you happen to like fucked up. After this and Eyes of My Mother, I can't believe this guy is doing a mainstream horror remake next (The Grudge). Great soundtrack featuring some cuts from classic giallo films and Gene Pitney. Christopher Abbott and Mia Wasikowska kill. Old school Cronenberg vibes. Miniature work. Just a great exercise in tension and style. I wanna live in a world where this tops LCJ's end of the year top ten list.

Trailer for the curious (redband so NSFW):

well, I'd seen that trailer (which is what got me to check it out) and I didnt feel ruined, but yeah... it'd strip away a layer of tension for sure, but it has plenty to spare. It's certainly not for everyone.

I just saw Serenity with McConaughey and Anne Hathaway and I think I thought it was pretty decent? In my opinion there were many things that it did cleverly perhaps without realizing and certain things that it did incredibly stupidly that it thought were much smarter. It's a super high concept movie, which it maybe didn't need to define itself as strongly by that as it did. MM's performance is pretty strange, and at a crucial scene he hits the Jackson Maine pissing himself pose

it reminded me of some other things that i actually do find very interesting, like lucia y el sexo and one specific arc of hunter x hunter. so yeah. i think it probably wasn't ~playful~ enough for its end result, but i'm definitely not like pissed i saw a dumb movie.

I saw serenity with my girlfriend today and embarrassed her when I laughed insanely hard t the twist out loud. It was like big star power black mirror and I couldn't help myself. Mccconaughey was great but the matrix references and everything that happened in the end was insane

i can't remember holding in as much laughter at a movie's wild decisions as this. also i loved how much it leaned into being like a 90s thriller at the beginning but then was like "surprise idiots!!!!!" at the end

also i should've known what was coming with the opening shot and those like oddly jarring camera movements of the three main characters

the camera movements were a good sign. one other thing i notice is that matthew mcconaughey has no penisToggle Spoiler

i definitely was thinking beforehand that if they went 90s thriller it might be amazing, but if they went too 2019 it could be awful. verdict is somewhere in the middle

the opening shot with the titles coming up over the camera gliding over the water made me feel like we were getting a Double Jeopardy style straight 90s noir and what transpired afterwards was insane

actually the more i talk to you about this movie, celiac, the more i kind of respect it. my girlfriend wanted nothing to do with it but now that i'm talking to someone who saw it and also thought it really rolled the dice conceptually, and maybe failed, i'm kind of enjoying it in retrospect

holy shit yeah. and yeah agree with respecting it for rolling the dice. like a lot is being made about it being a twist movie, which is fine, but i do think there's something to making this movie while having two huge stars in it
