The Man Who Killed Hitler & Then The Bigfoot
How could such an exciting title produce such an ordinary film? Atrocious directing of the supporting cast, a plain naan soundtrack and for the most part, TV grade cinematography. I wanted to like this film so badly.

Lookit, I just watched the favorite for the second time. That's my new black swan. That's the one. I'm ready to cheer for it at the oscars. I'm a sucker for quirky girrls. This one had five of them.
Also, they're lesbians.

maybe someone can help with this, but i can't even really think of a contemporary movie where the lead had such a plain moral vision? like very uncomplicated, very plain, but very upfront?
Nice day if it doesn't rain.

except with a very powerful woman and a male lead who is okay with the woman fundamentally being the hero/savior of his own story?

This looks good. I like that we seem to be getting more movies these days that take seriously the pain of being a teenaged girl. I love the Virgin Suicides but it always frustrated me that it teases insight into this but doesn't really follow it up. Kinda reflective of the central contradiction that film is based on though.

Me: I watch a disproportionate amount of films by women because I care about gender equality in the film industry and, even though I'm just one person, every little bit of support helps!
Also me: *torrents every Kelly Reichardt film*

yeah Edge Of Seventeen is great and deserved more attention at the time. youtube red ordered a mini series last year but i don't know what's happening with it. Kelly Fremon Craig (fuck that spells KFC) is writing.. "Scooby" now?
she also wrote that Alexis Bledel (+ Michael Keaton/Carol Burnett) "Post Grad" movie a decade ago but the 8% RT score has kept me away all these years. might still watch it out of curiosity though

omg! Always knew about Post Grad because of Bledel but never took it seriously for the same reason. But, I mean, critics (other than Ebert) p much hated Birth too, so what do they know?

Henry V (1944)- Laurence Olivier
Really liked this, Olivier had a voice made for reciting Shakespeare, the cinematography was pretty amazing as well.
How Green Was My Valley (1941)- John Ford
Loved everything about this, especially the cinematography and the performances from Crisp, O'Hara and Pidgeon which were amazing.
I Don't Want To Be A Man (1918)- Ernst Lubitsch
This ruled.
It's A Wonderful Life (1946)- Frank Capra
Liked this more than I thought I would, all the performances were great.

i'm sorry if that sounds pretentious or whatnot i've never seen it so i have no idea what the movie is except for the trailer but it feels like the type of movie owned by someone where you go to their apartment and the only piece of media they have is a blu ray of a most violent year next to their tv

the high and the mighty (1954)
insane movie
"Can you take something else in your stride?"
"I can try."
"Good. I want you to do me a favour. Look, when I tell you, sit down there with your back against that seat, stay there, no matter what else is going on. Don't try to be a heroine because in those last few moments, there isn't anything in the world you can do to help anybody. You know, your face can improve any landscape. I want you to keep it that way. So the favour for me is this pillow. Hold it tightly over your face, for yourself and for me. With the wind and the sea neither God nor Sullivan can set this thing down tonight like an egg crate. We might just as well slam into a mountain. Dan knows it. I know it. And so does Sullivan."
