another Serenity sort-of fan checking in

I had an inkling of the twist but felt certain when I realized the shopkeeper acted like a total NPC.

I think the film could have gone further with the idea of AI achieving sentience but was too locked into MM's mission to get really philosophical. Like did the son program the game so that MM and Diane Lane would fuck, or did the characters choose to do that?

It's unfortunate that no one will see this when "millions" watched a significantly dumber film, Bird Box.

The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum (Volker Schlöndorff & Margarethe von Trotta, 1975) - Quite the polemic! It was cruelly funny too, which I wasn't expecting. I think this is another "horror movie of the soul."

I really love august osage county for some reason

dan in real life
five easy pieces
gosford park, kinda
margot at the wedding
rachael getting married
brideshead revisited lol

there's definitely others I can't think of. loads of them have the rich, single, city worker sibling (often a lothario also) and then the homely, humble, and wise sibling who will probably be the protagonist

I’m 30 minutes into The Oath, which is a home for holidays comedy I suppose. It hasn’t pissed me off too much.

I watched Bohemian Rhapsody this morning. A total disgrace. Brian May is a cunt for trying to slide that one by us.

Days Of Being Wild 1990

Probably my second favorite WKW, despite its flaws. The atmosphere is so lush, the girls’ stories are so heartbreaking, and Leslie Cheung was just an incredibly magnetic presence.

Anybody know why Tony Leung shows up at the end though? He doesn’t seem to have a relationship to literally anything in the movie. Why is he there?

I saw a screening of My Life as a Dog with Hallstrom in attendance and in both the introduction to the film and his post-screening Q&A he wouldn't shut the fuck up about the fact that the movie theater we were in used "the real butter" for their popcorn. he was eating popcorn pretty much the whole time. I fell asleep during the movie.

Roma (Alfonso Cuaron, 2018) - A very impressive film. It shows us an interesting yet totally unexceptional story. It actually shows us work, how many films do that? I suppose I like the idea of giving such a cinematic treatment to the utterly ordinary maybe more than I actually like it in practice. I am struck by how little we know of Cleo's inner world and maybe that's what prevents me from connecting with it on an emotional level.
