Yeah, you see this aggressive, alpha male, "this is my board" bullshit is extremely retrograde and stupid. Yes, ratbags, only you are allowed to make boring, shitty posts. My presence on this board has to entertain or satisfy you for me to be allowed to post without being harangued by the internet tough guy, right.

In my experience if you just roll with a ratbags roast and don’t take it too personally then everyone ends up having a good time by the end

Yes, maybe I shouldn't have said anything, and it's not like I'm going to let his opinion affect my posting, but that sort of energy feels toxic to me, idk how it might've affected me if I were a newer boarder who was still getting comfortable with expressing their thoughts on here. Hipinion, at a time, could be a rather intimidating place to post; that's largely gone by the wayside so ratbags' style seems like a weird relic to me. Idk, maybe it's not really big deal.

I have no dog in this race, but I don't know why the film's MPAA rating should matter? Do you think the org was being malicious in giving a soft rating to something because maybe it might lead to doing something bad to children?

I've no judgment on whether children should or should not see that film or any broader opinions on how the MPAA should conduct its practices. I simply found it surprising and maybe even a testament to the film's subtlety that it could broach such adult topics without being so explicit about them so as to raise eyebrows.

That’s exactly a common point of critique for me with many lesser quality movies. A dulling of or gloss applied to important, hard to face subjects. But here I’d say it’s skillfully done

we've all been to that apartment

that foreboding walk in the hallway trying to find the bathroom and a bedroom door that isn't closed all the way you get a peep inside there's nothing wrong with the room and yet its the most unnatural thing you've ever seen

loved it. completely bizarre tone. it's saying something about celebrity and terrorism which is observant. it doesn't come to any conclusions or quite flesh it out. but i was p much transfixed for the duration. portman is amazing. the music and the performances/choreography are spot on. loads will hate it and to them i say NO

Himala - Ishmael Bernal 1982
What a movie. Practically begging for a full on restoration/rerelease. Reminds me of classic hollywood moral dramas like Ace In The Hole but with a distinct post-70s nihlism and explicitness. (Though maybe that's just me transferring Western film history onto this. I know nothing about Filipino cinema.)

High Flying Bird - soderbergh
Eh this was fine. Cinematography reminded me of the Boss Of It All, of all films.

Smashing The 0-Line - Seijun Suzuki
Watched because of Palmer's big post a few pages back. So good. Suzuki just rips from scene to scene with an energy I don't think anyone else can replicate.
