after austin: tropical Tampa, FL. Then?? How about the suburbs of Atlanta, GA! Then I'm thinking New York City. Time for a change of pace ... let's see what Texas' capital has to offer!

let's say i want to visit austin. is there enough cool outdoorsy national/state park stuff within a couple hours that would make it worth having a vehicle for a 4-5 night stay, or would i be better off just staying 3 nights in austin with no vehicle?

there are lots of great state parks around austin, like pedernales falls, guadalupe river state park or enchanted rock, especially in the hill country. lots of great county parks too but there aren't any national parks for day trip around here.

ahh nice, thanks. i am completely clueless about tx in general (never been) but austin has always fascinated me and there are some crazy cheap flights there this fall and am really considering it. thinking renting a car is going to be the best option for me as i also want to hit up jester king which seems like it's a bit further out than other areas i want to go to. really want to go to big bend but that is just way too far away
