scary monsters and lodger are both equally great and equally miles better than young americans (and I truly enjoy ya)
and that's that.

I mean truthfully I think Station to Station or Hunky Dory are my favorite albums. I'm just having a moment with YA. It's like a new discovery at this point.

scary monsters is like a victory lap for everything he did in the 70s, with touches of the slick commercial appeal he would go for in the 80s
My listening experience in balanced mode reveals the great depth of EARTH

No it is not his best

love Young Americans. Win is one of Bowie's best deep cuts. Usually skip Across the Universe.

It's pretty uneven, but there's some fantastic songs on there for sure.

Looking forward to this. Black Tie/White Noise and Outside deserve more love than they've been given. (The former especially.)

Wasn't there allegedly a completed experimental record between the two? Or was that bootleg basically some noodling?

I'd say more on the noodling side. Bowie is GOAT in my eyes and I wouldn't listen to this a 3rd time.

i love outside but it's way tighter if you skip the skits which are decent but why did everyone have to shoot for that 70min mark for CDs in the 90s
The answer is simple: artisanship.

there is an argument for young americans being his best song but prob not album
I look at bluegrass music as this sort of glowing ball. The point is to relax the technique around the glowing ball of feeling.

I've listened to Outside quite a lot but I could not tell you with any confidence what goes on during the narrative. A lot of good songs, though.

Absolutely in love with that “Toy” artwork. Hard to believe it leaking was over 10 years ago now.

I like the idea that Virgin refused to release Toy not because of the content but because of Bowie's proposed album cover.

In spite of my banging on about how 90s-era Bowie is underappreciated, I've not given time to reinvestigate Hours, the least-loved album in the man's discography. Will now be the time?
