Do we have a contemporary art thread?

Let's talk Aguachile Alley

Postby Phil » Tue Mar 08, 2016 4:41 pm

Couldn't find it if so and it seems like it couldn't hurt to have one instead of just talking about it in the NYC/LA threads, etc.

Anyway, post recent work, rec good shows, talk about how bad [insert blue chip artist] is, argue about whether painting is dead, whatever.

Here's some Dana Schutz to start because she's the best and my av.

Oh I thought I remembered that and didn't see it when I searched 'contemporary art.'

Well nevermind then.

This can be a chance for a thread w/o broken images, though

Live in a city with a very recent, very active art scene right now and it's cool to watch. Anyway I will post cool things in this thread at some point.

A lot of these are real freaky. Why's art gotta be so freaky?

this isn't particularly freaky yet, as far as contemporary art goes.

is there like a special pair of glasses i can wear or a pill i can take to not have perma-jaded vision when it comes to this shit? asking honestly, at this point i have zero confidence in my ability to discern good work from run-of-the-MFA charlatanry and my reflex is to just assume that everything is hopeless trash

this stance might be more bankrupt than actually trying to understand /engage the contradictions of contemporary art

i can def empathize with being upset, naturemorte, but people write books about this kinda of trend, some with actual points in them and v. lil jargon, but yeah, it's a bankrupt form of expression in an age of bankruptcies. the politicization of art --> <--- aestheticization of politics (expect lots of portraits of the donald next season in basel).
