ok there's the story the trailer tells and then there's the wiki entry

"After he suffers a catastrophic loss, a man (James McAvoy) becomes haunted by four different young women, each with a desire to steal his identity."

did that just spoil the TWIST? Or is that some wrong or outdated plot description....

I think he's a genre b-movie director who slipped up and made a hit and has ridden that success to get big budgets from then on out. He's living the dream.

The scary twist of the new movie is that it will open in three theatres nationwide on Halloween and then be gone like a ghost within a week.

The Visit was well received and made money, so it happened (I didn't watch it). He may go back to big budget bombs though.

he seems to have found a comfortable niche with this production company (Blumhouse?) making non-event movies. maybe he'll continue to crank out these b-movies. some will be fine, some will be bad, but I don't think we'll ever get another Unbreakable.

Yeah I think you are right. I mean Unbreakable was a modest success (though really it has become a semi-cult fave). Signs was I think the biggest film after Sixth Sense and likely my favourite of his movies though I have not watched it in years. After that his cred got destroyed beginning with "The Village" though I think if I was to watch the Village now, it would likely work as a genre flick vs. a "Ohh guess the twist in this M Night flick". I lost track of the guy after this with the exception of The Happening which was garbage.

Unbreakable was likely a success based entirely on his name after 6th Sense. I thought it was garbage. I did enjoy Signs, though my expectations were very different than they would've been had I not seen Unbreakable. But yeah, I lost track after that too. The only other of his I've seen is Lady in the Water, because I like Giamatti a lot, but that might be the worst movie I've ever seen.

Lady In The Water is the worst movie I have ever seen. I mean there are worse movies - like D-level shlock - but it is the worst mainstream movie with an actual budget that is supposed to have been a real movie. I hate it so so much.

yea with the exception of sixth sense which is straight good and lady in the water which is straight bad, i would consider the rest to be good-bad movies. i haven't seen avatar or after earth tho

just watched the last airbender yesterday and it is easily his worst movie. actually kind of depressing.

edit: still need to see the visit. and i only made through like the first five minutes of praying with anger and wide awake

I know someone who rides hard for After Earth. Unbreakable was pretty decent but I was also 10 when I watched it.
