Dated, and I could quibble with some of the details, but on the whole it's pretty accurate and a good eye-opener for anyone who thought diamonds had any intrinsic value (clue: they don't, and they are a completely terrible investment). I didn't know the part about the origins of eternity rings, so that was neat.
I liked the gay camp and car dealership articles too, will read the others later this week. Good thread.

Yeah, DeBeers has only 40% or something of the market now so it's not quite as of a monopoly; but they're still in a strong running for Worst People In The World.

yeah, i used to use instapaper a lot more, but i've been really busy and lacking the time to read stuff at home, so i do most of my article reading at work so i just bookmark things in-browser. if i can figure out a good way to set it up with my phone maybe i'll go back to it
also that car dealership article ruled. gonna check the other stuff out soon hopefully. glad people were into this thread
