Yeah, Trump reversed it instantly by using it all the time, it’s so frustrating

eh, maybe, but this reason from the man himself seems more likely:
Lesley Stahl: Trump admitted mission to "discredit" pressCBS "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl has revealed a candid remark made to her by then-presidential candidate Donald Trump in 2016. Stahl told a group of fellow journalists at the Deadline Club Awards Dinner in New York City earlier this week that Mr. Trump had admitted his consistent attacks on the media were meant to "discredit" journalists so that negative stories about him would not be believed.
well that was intense

If you think “instantly” and “all the time” make that a nonsequitur, I guess you’re not familiar with a little concept called the ETERNAL NOW

especially when it's not even used the same way. dem's might use it sarcastically (or intentionally) for news that is in fact not true, while a lot of times republicans use it to dismiss news they dislike.
if the latter uses it that way, they prob think the former is using it that way too, and not actually pointing out it is in fact not accurate.
well that was intense

The thing that annoys me the most about "fake news" is it was originally meant in regards to the blatant lies Trump kept telling before the election, then he took it and forced it to mean the opposite.
edit: I see that's been covered.

Trump just retweeted the article about our galaxy being twice the size it was 2 years ago and equal to the size of Andromeda. And added "You're welcome."

the issue is Republicans learned a long time ago they can shape policy and win elections by blatantly lying and creating dumb soundbites. it dosent matter if something is true or not. if you say it in front of a camera and broadcast to a low information base that actively rejects science, reason, and critical thinking they will vote for you.
the other issue is democrats are completely spineless and will spend all day trying to pick apart the logical fallacies of a raving lunatic who is appealing to a base entirely on primal impulses.

they’re also good at messaging that assures people that they’ll be able to keep their money/way of life and if they aren’t rich and are white they’re good at blaming others for all their failures at achieving it

The coinage of "fake news" is an own goal of epic proportions by Dems. Great idea to adopt a phrase that can so easily be turned around by Republicans to perfectly express their decades-long campaign against the credibility of mainstream media.

and they created the entire notion of "mainstream media" to attack its credibility and lend credence to the notion that outside, fringe, or conspiratorial voices are the actual vessels of truth

When I say originally, I mean with reference to the 2016 election. Obviously the term had been around longer than that

I don't think "the democrats" had anything to do with the coinage of fake news. it was a term used in the media in a few stories shortly after the election to classify the actual fraudulent news that circulated on facebook, twitter, and phony websites. the term was immediately turned around by the alt-right and infowars
then it made its way to Hannity
and then DJT started using it shortly thereafter

That was poorly worded. I should've said lies Trump was spreading from Breitbart, etc.
