I followed several of these guys before I even knew they were working on Spiderverse, and have followed most of the rest of them since then. They are all posting all sorts of stuff from the movie and seem to be getting plenty of recognition for it, at least on IG and Twitter

Saw a billboard for this with a quote calling it "the best superhero movie of the year", which i thought was selling it short, then i realized black panther and infinity war came out this year so yeah, three all timers in the same year

Yeah the plot was by the numbers but the cast and art direction elevated it above all the other crap

i agree with naturemorte, “masterpiece of utopian branding.” sort of like LEGO MOVIE? I absolutely do love this shit though. Spider-Man is the greatest American Hero, Alain Resnais wanted to do a movie on him. there’s a weekend at bernie’s reference in American Sniper

I'm glad to hear that. Even just the artists having the freedom to talk about their work feels refreshing. I feel like the committee /secrecy of mcu contributes to the miniscule ambition in their visuals. The MCU movies are more animated than live action and I wish they would lean into that and experiment with how their cgi looks, but I guess they're all about convincing us how real thanos looks (boring, he looks boring)

Marvel's editorial team basically handles the CGI set pieces in the films which is why they might be samey, and the directors handle the character beats and smaller moments. The directors here handled the entire film which is why it feels different.

love to board on hipinion, where cynicism is compulsory, except about <checks notes> superhero movies, where it's banworthy

i took my 4 year old for his first movie theater experience and he was way into it.
