seeing the words "prom royalty" makes me thing that the only horseshoe theory with any validity is that the more popular you get the more of a damn nerd you become

i was the best pitcher on the baseball team so everybody knew me and the popular kids were cool with me but i wouldn't say i was ever actually popular, mostly cuz i was too quiet to capitalize on my position as popular-adjacent

I went to a very small school and many of us had known each other for most of our lives, so we had all decided who we liked and didn’t like by high school. No one was really popular. That said, no, I wasn’t popular.

this was similar to my high school as well. my graduating class was 93 people and the majority of us had gone to school since kindergarten so there really weren't cliques or popularity in any conventional sense and as a result I always found pop culture aimed at teens to be slightly confusing

naw but I did have a broad social network and had friends across multiple cliques. however by my senior year strangers in school either assumed I was into hard drugs or was a huge weirdo dork

my high school's obsession with sports is perfectly reflected in that I was not at all popular nor good at sports when I entered 9th grade (nor had I been in previous years). but then I started getting better at sports and as I did, my popularity rose. then I had the whole 'sex with the 35 year old married woman' scandal in 10th grade, which literally everybody in my school knew about, and that really put me up there. plus the woman in question would buy me liquor whenever I asked so I was the go-to guy for booze throughout 10th and 11th grade. my star did dip a bit in my senior year. I was still riding the scandal wave to an extent, and our wrestling team got a lot of attention because we were among the best in the state. but then curtis hyde and the french teacher got caught banging in her classroom and his scandal was way more scandalous than mine and I was overshadowed

my wrestling coach did as well as my favorite teacher, with whom I was very friendly. it's weird but the reaction from both of them was more "atta boy" than "omg you've been sexually assaulted"
but then again this was the mid-80s and things were different then. I'm not excusing what she (and I) did but it just wasn't as heavy as if it happened now

what color is the prom royalty usergroup? i was voted homecoming king my junior year. my friend malia was the queen. yes i was out to the whole school at that point so they made the gay kid King. i was on the football team for two years and in ASB so i guess i was fairly popular but still pretty weird. i had to slow dance with malia for one song at the dance while the entire school surrounded us and it was the longest two minutes of my life. i'll try to get my parents to send me a photo of the homecoming court from my yearbook

i still have my crown at my parent's house, i like to wear it whenever i'm there

I was an instigator. I just drew my own “vote for me”
Signs. I put them all over the school. It caught on and I kind of over took the cool kids vote. They were furious.
Was hysterical
And yes in theory they just wrote my name down instead of the nominated

I went to a K-12 with a graduating class of about 60 and we were all pretty much friends but some of us were plainly cooler than others.

I would say I was around the 65th percentile.
