I'm very happy, but echo Jason's question about Retro. Hopefully it's because they've been busy developing a game which is now nearing completion.

nowhere...just speculating. I'm sure it's still going to be a Switch game....but if the game is starting over from scratch with Retro the game is probably 3-4 years out now which would be year 5 or 6 of the Switch life cycle.

At least we'll get the prime trilogy remake for switch before that. Insiders say it's done. Hopefully they'll feel bad about us and give it to us soon.

I wonder if starting from scratch really means starting from scratch or if they can use engine, asset stuff

is there a source for this beyond speculation and ign guys being "certain" just because it makes good business sense?

The source is an editor for Game Informer (who I assume got it from one of his anonymous contacts). I think it's pretty trustworthy.

it must’ve been preeeeeeetty shitty for them to release a damn video and such. great news as far as i’m concerned. metroid deserves its BotW/Odyssey moment.

Glad retro is involved again. They're pretty much the only people I'd trust to do a metroid game right

Also I'm into a remastered prime set. I just realized I've never played prime 3 so that'll hold me over

This is a great look at what made Prime stand out visually and why it holds up so well - the focus on complex geometry over textures means it scales up to HD beautifully

Man Retro's so good at this kind of design, all the little cracks and details in the Prime games. The sequels aren't as good (game-play wise good, but I felt they needlessly complicated the isolated exploration), but I'll give em a fairer shake with a re-release.

Prime is an all timer, 2 was really good but quite difficult i never ended up beating it. 3 was very linear and pretty easy, it didn't feel very metroidy (no isolation aspect at all) but it was still fun.

i'm interested in a prime trilogy on switch just for the possibility of playing prime 3 with prime controls instead of wii pointer (which worked well tbh). will be cool to revisit if it actually happens

i dunno. retro definitely likes to use their own tech and tools but maybe some of the art/animation/movesets is good enough to keep or at least use as a base

metroid prime's texture work is really great too, though. and smart in that retro really pushed for, you know, texture and contrast over utter resolution. this meant they could use swathes of pretty low res and noisy texture work when it suited the contrast or variety they were going for.

yeeeah. i need to get back into it. what a gorgeous game.

finally beat dead cells for the first last time, and while i've played a ton of it — and really enjoyed setting up different loadouts and runs — HK is just really special.

yeahhh this is what makes me a lil skeptical about these "they're just sitting on it" rumors - if it was done, wouldn't the ideal time to announce it have been along with the MP4 delay? "Sorry, no new metroid for a while, but the trilogy is coming out next month!" what else would they be waiting for?

idk i believe it..the whole metroid news dropping was kinda of sudden and they probably weren't planning on having to throw it out there all the sudden

I mean they've been pretty calculated with how they've been releasing ports of their older games for this thing so far i.e. whenever theres gaps in the 1st party release schedule. i'm sure we'll have it soon enough!

I believe it’s attached to the receipt email that you got when you purchased the game? (Assuming you did the eshop version)
