true.

So, is there actually a disney film anyone itt wants to see get remade out of ones that are likely candidates or is anyone at all anticipating the lion king? I love the little mermaid but I think they'd need to have Jodi Benson sing for Ariel for me to be able to even watch it really. But Idk, maybe I could with a really good cast, and I'm a least interested in seeing if they could pull off a mostly underwater CGI film.

yes, omg. "I wanted to shoot it underwater", I can't remember how exactly she phrased it. But, also, iirc that one was not gonna follow TLM (1989)'s plot, so idk if it would count as a remake exactly. err, I mean it's one form of remake i guess. lol that we need a taxonomy of concepts for somehow remaking a movie.

Zendaya was the last rumored Ariel as of last year. If they do it I figure they’ll just shoot it like Aquaman

she seems to be in everything these days. One of the things about LM is that it's about an adolescent girl's (i hesitate to call her this, in fact she ids herself as a woman in the film) first love. Looking at her now Zendaya is pretty young looking. Disney may wanna ultimately downplay that aspect of the film because of the gender politics. idk, seems like she'd be good. but, for real, she'd have to be a really good singer to sell me on a non-benson ariel. Part of that World is my favorite disney song and I get emotional just hearing it.

worst possible reboot would be lilo and stitch i think. unless they put this scene back in the movie.

I didn't know anything about the live action Aladdin so when I saw Will Smith as the Genie the first time I thought it was a twitter photoshop joke

Looking forward to this. Jennifer Lee is the best guarantor of quality in Disney Animation Studios

Moana was actually pretty bad, Tangled is bland (but that one love ballad is great), Frozen is way above those.

Definitely for the most part.

It will be interesting to see if SPLina as a 7 year old will be as fascinated with Frozen 2 as she was when the first one was out.

All depends on the songs, I expect.

Frozen is so fucking good. The tone, the pacing, the art direction, the cinematography, the editing, etc. feel very in line with the traditionally animated Disney classics (and out of line with most modern animated films). They absolutely nailed updating the Disney princess formula for modern sensibilities. It's like they fast forwarded from the 90s Disney renaissance and shoved aside the 20+ year Pixar/Dreamworks era of animation. It's an all-time classic.

I don't think Moana has the same magic, not even close. It's not bad, but it's overlong and loses me with the gamey action setpieces. It feels very contemporary and won't have the staying power of Frozen.

Not really a don don, but just realizing that one company will be getting the money of episode 9, Avengers Endgame and Frozen 2.

I just realized I think I liked Zootopia better than any of the other non-Spider-Verse animated films from the last few years.

Damn, Zootopia was ambitious. That's worth a lot to me, but I feel the need to go back and reacquaint with the racial politics of it because I don't recall everything landing so cleanly.

Moana opens with some pretty charming island scenes and songs, it looks great, and then the rest is basically one extended action scene out on the seas. Structurally felt weird and undercooked, there's not much of story or character to grab a hold of from then on, the action itself is not very playful or fun, the movie doesn't have anywhere to go to surprise or delight us.
