Oh interesting. Children of Time wasn't my favorite but it wasn't terrible either. I'm curious how this pans out. The author's biology background is a huge draw for me.

Edit: I guess Zoology background technically

Edit2: how'd you get a copy of this?

im still slowly reading the magic mountain, about 25% complete, and i love the barely perceptible yet growing sense of dread and discomfort underlying the whole thing. really unique and special quality. i have no idea where this is going but i'm v intrigued...

Fever Dream is so good and a great suggestion for what I'm looking for, but I just read it! :)

Joseph McElroy does the rising paranoia thing really well, I always recommend lookout cartridge but most of his other work does it too.

it's been several months since I read this but I'm pretty sure that it actually rules and is the funniest thing I've read since I don't remember when.

cj, do! I think you'd dig. great mix of sex/passion, capitalism/post-war mentality, social class blah blah -- don't want to say too much but it's gorgeous. going to read more lawrence now.

i read all of this today, and holy shit it was good. beautifully written, but it has this kind of cold/cruel aspect to it that i can only compare to a michael haneke movie. the last forty or so pages were incredibly eerie and powerful.

I've had Children of Time on my bookshelf for aaaaages, I'm not sure why I haven't gotten around to reading it. Everybody says it's great!

I'm reading:

Which I've also had for a while, but I had that poem "I remember Aldestrop" randomly in my head for a while and then I saw this on the shelf and then it clicked that Aldestrop is by this guy and it's Spring so it's the perfect time to read it. It's very good but poetical writing so it's sort of slow going but very nice. He rides a bike from London to around Bristol in 1913

I like Never Let Me Go as well. My favorite of his is The Unconsoled. Apparently, that one is divisive.
