i understand coworkers effort's to troll but i don't get the punchline. like i get the intent, but how was he the original social justice warrior? that sounds like a joke premise joe rogan would attempt and then abandon in the isolation tank after realizing it doesn't make sense and he just thinks the term sjw is funny on its own.

I don't want to copy-paste the whole entire block of text but here is a section of the argument, which I present not because I'm actually trying to argue the point (I don't know nearly enough to argue the actual merits of the case) but to demonstrate what this whole thing turned into:
Columbus's civil rights advocacy was not limited to the tribes of the Americas; throughout his maritime career, he also rescued Jews from the Spanish Inquisition by employing them as crew members on various expeditions. His tireless and life-long civil rights activism also inspired the Dominican friar Bartolomé de las Casas, to successfully petition King Ferdinand to fund a religious order to perpetually advocate for the tribal peoples of the Americas, resulting in de las Casas being appointed by the Church and the Crown of Spain as "Protector of the Indians."
This was then refuted by an even longer wall of text, after which the entire exchange got shut down (along with our email system).
