I don't know why people still get excited by big star. They're average tacos and absurdly overpriced.

The kitchen at balmoral was OK but sort of confused at what it was trying to be. If they just replicated the sort of stuff they serve at Lincoln it would have been completely fine

Edgewater does have Huraches Dona Chio though. As good as anything I've had in La Villita (tortillas made to order)

Speaking of food this fall I discovered al bawadi grill in bridgeview, which i found out later was considered the best Arab food in Chicago. No hyperbole its been the best meals I've ever had. Even the damn kids meal chicken tenders were the best chicken tenders I've ever tasted

I will definitely check that out. In Bridgeport I've been availing myself of Shinya ramen which...might be my new favorite in the city? Love the low key and diverse crowd, no dumb lines like strings, the black garlic tonkatsu is fantastic. I dunno I'm not an authority on this shit but it's consistently been solid with no bullshit.

Oh I read your comment wrong. I'm never in bridgeview but will tuck that in the back of my brain in case.

But yeah if anyone has more SW side recs I will take them all. I basically never go north of Cermak anymore

If you live in Bridgeport/near south side it's only a 25 minute drive with off peak traffic. Easily worth it.

I'm permanently in little village now. I love tacos/Mexican and got the hole in the walls and street carts ranked top to bottom, but gotta say you take the variety you've got up north for granted. I hate getting in the car to go anywhere, so it's a little isolating in that regard from a food perspective

i'll dap shinya ramen being phenomenal

bridgeport north of like 35th was a great lil neighborhood. it's nuts how much living off of pershing colored my net negative view of my experience living there.

also yeah jeez despite living close to pilsen i think taqueria el heredero and the tacos at the mexican grocery store in that same general vicinity were some of the best i've had in my life and certainly in the city of chicago.

why go to an always crowded Big Star when a seat is usually open literally right next door at Dove's?
