the HRC camp whinging (idk why we're saying that now instead of 'whining' but i like to be a coolteen) about bernie is pretty rich but i also feel like we've collectively memory-holed the month after the primary was over and bernie wouldn't endorse & jeff weaver was saying all kinds of nonsense, which is one of the reasons the convention got acrimonious

obviously the idea that this hurt HRC in any meaningful way is ludicrous and i've never actually seen one of her people meaningfully engage w/ the numbers that show that a higher % of bernie people went for clinton than hillary people went for obama in 2008

but playing nice with people he clearly loathes is one of the things the berndogg's gotten better at this cycle.

there was a lot of atmosphere of reality denial for months. ultimately it was good that he stayed in the race and managed to pull the whole party left, but it required a lot of ludicrous lying about their chances, because if you admit you had lost well then you can't really continue a campaign.

I actually have this vivid memory from the '16 primary. the night of the south carolina primary I went to pick up a pizza. at double daves in south park meadows. I saw the results come in while I was waiting, and I got out my phone and posted on the messageboard hipinion the race was over. february 27. I would like a pizza now tbh.

This number percent of people that voted in the Dem primary for Sanders and then voted for her over Trump/Stein in the GE, correct?

Also as an aside, I might for real switch to Bernie because he is making this MLB Minor League contraction issue part of his platform

basically:

- the studies we have suggest 1 in 10 bernie primary voters went trump, which is normal: that's about the same # of rubio voters who ended up voting for hillary, for example. hell, in 2008, about 10% of obama's primary voters voted for mccain in the general for some dumb fucking reason

- whereas! in 2008, as many as 1 in 4 clinton primary voters went mccain; this is historically quite high, though i've seen it put at closer to 15% too

- but: the research/polling also suggests that whatever sour grapes effect exists is minimal -- for all the press that PUMAs got in 2008 or berniebros got in 2016, they weren't the prototypical vote swapper. instead, and as anyone who pays attention to us politics could have guessed, people who swap parties from primary to general are basically just weirdos with all-over-the-map ideology. the most predictive factor of a hillary-mccain voter was their feelings about the iraq war, followed by negative racial animus -- being a woman, e.g., had little predictive value there. similarly, bernie-trump people weren't obama fans and (noting a pattern here) were far more likely to say that white people don't have advantages than the average D primary voter; as many of them were registered Republicans as registered Democrats

the idea that bernie could have gotten those people on board for vote for hillary clinton -- or that hillary could have gotten her pro-iraq, racist primary voters to go for obama -- completely misunderstands everything we know about both of those elections

imo she should spend a lot less time talking about that and way more about how she got ratfucked by james comey and the new york times!

kind of made sense to vote for bernie and then trump (not REALLY but work with me). those were the only two guys in 2016 talking to the working class, and they generally had similar messages: things are awful and we need to fix them radically, here are some huuuuge ideas to change everything. trump was obviously a con man and bernie is a righteous dude, of course, but no other candidate came close to their level of engagement with the masses.

dunno dude the last clinton administration and the obama administration did plenty to spread suffering worldwide. it’s probably fair to say trump’s shit is still worse cuz of the two judges but there’s an argument to be had! i mean should i find some video of iraqi children mutilated by the huge increase of drone strikes under the last dem administration or have you already seen those?

in fact there’s an argument to be had that the last clinton administration bears a fair amount of blame for the current border crisis, ironically enough.

because democrats, including a great one who gives a shit about the vulnerable and wouldn't show off on enforcement to appear tough like hillary, would treat undocumented and migrant people well

it's like the only good thing about trump winning, the single thing

dunno, both parties take money from the same places and ultimately have the same agenda, it’s just about how you want it served. we’ve had two eight year dem presidencies in the last thirty years and things have been unwaveringly heading here.
