this is probably right

my first and hopefully last ashley feinberg-lite Twitter Investigation was on the heels of this wild ass thing where jacobin's connor kilpatrick was hinting that "everyone on the left was talking about/secretly into" this laughably transphobic piece that literally ran in "the american conservative"

i was scrolling through various people's likes in a frenzy of Online and saw that elizabeth bruenig liked the author of the american conservative's tweets immediately following the release of the piece, meaning that barring explicit recantation she is firmly in my ledger as a Crypto-Transphobe

but yeah idk. i go back and forth between a kind of grim pragmatism about this (like, what if the only way to get these vital policies in place is to give platforms to people who are palatable if only because they suck in other extremely important ways) and just like.......total disappointment, hating everything, etc

did she like anti-trans tweets/about his article or just generic shit? she's friendly with conservatives writers, most of whom are bigoted in various ways. while that's not great, it doesn't mean she agrees with them on these things outside of like abortion (and again, which her anti-abortion seems like a personal belief rather than state-enforced kind of belief since she loves pro-choice politicians like Bernie and Nader)

the woman who wrote the piece tweeted out a meme or something the day after it came out / the conversation was sort of blowing up around it that was jokingly like "screw the haters" and breunig liked it

anymore i just try not to think about any of this stuff, i deleted my twitter account and like, if she's not openly advocating for something hateful it doesn't really matter but still, i am cursed with this knowledge, and now you are too

such a weird thing to be tolerated on the left in 2019. "personally I think gay people are real gross, and I will publicly state that, but politically I obviously support candidates who support LGBTQ rights"

abortion is not wrong and contributing to the culture of shame around it by publicly stating you are "against it" is bad. shaming poor people as a privileged person is gross. it's fine to be against it. you just don't seek an abortion. no statement required. join operation rescue if you want to go public.

most of these catholic convert type socialists really gross me out. if I were to armchair analyze it seems they are just doing a dressed up version of that teenage libertarian type shit of "well actually I am fiscally conservative butttt socially liberal you see" how unique and broad and interesting you are! she's a good writer though.

Listening to this week's "left, right, and center" (I know, I know) and Liz Bruenig just said "I have a HUGE soft spot for the space force, I'm extremely pumped for the space force. I mean, should we be heading into space with a militant foot forward? Probably not, I would prefer a more peaceable approach to space. But, I mean, putting a greater emphasis on getting into space and expanding our horizons in that direction is really cool."

the issue with like all pundits is that we're exposed to their opinions on far more than the 2 or 3 topics tops that each of them are qualified to express an opinion on

Liz's takes on LRC are generally the 85/15 thing Feech claimed. Was great to hear her rebuttals to Andrew Sullivan, who managed to top Josh Barro and Rich Lowry in being completely insufferable

i mean i only listen to LRC when she's on, i'd say most of the pleasure i get out of it is hearing someone deflect right wing and centrist attacks on the left so capably. but the new york times thing aggravates my suspicion of her comfort and camaraderie among the media class

for me it's just that i hate the feeling that people, even on a deeply abstract and inconsequential level, hate me; and i hate that my friends like or are invested in a few of those people; and more than that i hate that i myself like or am invested in a few of those people. but i also hate everything in the whole world, so it balances out. these are my feelings, and they suck

we 99.9% agree and i dont give a shit about this person at all and might be missing some seemingly-important subtleties in her bio or history or pattern of behavior or w/e that i genuinely cannot muster the will to have even Mixed Case Serious Feelings about

but

homosexual behavior:gross::abortion:wrong don't mix

(like two dicks and well you know the rest Image)

the only reason i bring this up at all is that i think this kind of sudsy analogy is a needless fumble for the advancement of broader causes

to be generous to people i perceive as deeply superstitious: aesthetic judgments don't rise to the level of the imposition of will (though they can veil ulterior motives and signal future dissonance)

politics = coalitions and coalitions = people and people = Image
