I will say that I enjoyed seeing a good old fashioned German suplex on Picard.

edit: that isn't to say Picard was German suplexed, that would kill him.

This was a bit rough but I think it shows promise

I appreciated that they gave Data a backzip in the painting scene, good detail

i enjoyed this well enough. which is to say it wasnt annoyingly bad and stewart was reliably great and the easter eggs/world building was fun.

it feels like the brexit/immigration ban/banning synths metaphor is a little forced (possibly problematic?) but we’ll see?

now thet i’m paying for all access i guess i should watch discovery

I think where the episode struggled was in showing us both the familiar Captain Picard and simultaneously a Picard who is deeply changed and wounded. It could have done without the interview sceneToggle Spoiler, which is stuff we could have learned about over the course of the season

also something about the phrase "synthetics" bothered me, I dunno is just seems an un-Treky way to describe a humanoid species. like something Dr Pulaski would say about Data. nowhere near as bad as the technobabble in Discovery thoughToggle Spoiler

but I did like it!

yeah

also like i havent seen measure of a man in forever but i dont know if its the tng episode whose themes i would have expanded to be the conceit of a new series lol

i had the same thought about the tv interview exposition bomb

so bad and most of that exposition would have been just fine being strategically unravelled over the course of a season which is like exactly the sort of luxury you are afforded by catering to motivated viewers who paid to watch the show.

We watched this tonight and my wife absolutely hated it, despite generally liking TNG

She might have just been in a bad mood but I think it was the specific combination of pointless action scenes, overly dramatic dialogue, and highly visible dog testiclesToggle Spoiler

yeah this was totally unnecessary and felt like a really bad sorkin series opener.

the pivot to the dystopian, racist and xenophobic federation that refuses to help the same romulans who fought and died in the dominion war on their side and even helped against shinzon in nemesis is very sad and disturbing to me
