i feel this (really didn't care for currents at all) but I also have a lot of nostalgia for innerspeaker

this is nice enough.
i really like the opener and "breathe deeper," and "on track." i was going to say that it sounds kind of lo-fi chill hip hop beats to study to at times, but, when i think about that comparison, i feel like the band has had more of a symbiotic relationship with such channels than a statement like that implies.

i find myself tiring of his drum sound a bit though this time around. i know it's kind of his "signature" now, but whereas it was thrilling on Lonerism and enjoyably funky on Currents, it can't help but feel a little formulaic at this stage.

as a point of comparison re. drums: "lost in yesterday" isn't exactly the greatest track, but it feels so much more lithe bc he produced the drums somewhat differently than like his usual "heavy break" vibe imo.

had lower expectations after the singles but i like this pretty well and even those sound better in context

i really get some prefab paddy vibes off the vocal delivery on one more year. and breathe deeper melody kinda sounds like that cleaners in venus song wivenhoe bells. wonder if kev even listens to other music lol

lol
another thing that i find kinda wonky re. this is - i know that listeners don't exactly come to Parker stuff for interesting lyrics - but there's like the emotive frayed relationship with his Dad song on here, and then everything else just kind of feels like his typical "time, mannn" themes.Toggle Spoiler

Hm this is not a very engaging record. I think I just like Lonerism. Respect b/c Kevin has talent but it all sounds a bit weak
And I feel like this year is really about, just the year of realizing stuff.

Lost In Yesterday was the only single I really liked. Anything else on the album at that level?

Yeah there's a few decent songs. "Borderline" is one of the most grating songs I've heard in awhile

I feel like there is no hype around this record whatsoever (lack of hype probably deserved in this case).

Are Tame Impala "done"?

I think all of the singles minus this one are def among the worst songs on the album.

Also haven't listened to this thing since it leaked so ymmv

I love it and think he’s gonna be bigger than ever, but I feel the vibes that the board seems to be done with ‘em. To me this kinda feels like the move from inner speaker to Lonerism like currents being the platform he jumped to the slow rush from... not necessarily that it’s better than currents cuz it probably isn’t, but more like it’s a further trip down that rabbit hole of synths and fitting with dance music-adjacent elements .

Yeah I was not into the singles at all and thought this would be the album where I hop off, but I really enjoyed my first listen. Not a big departure from Currents and definitely "safer," but really pleasant and will be fun for KParks and the gang to jam at big festival and stadium shows

Where are the unsafe tame
Impala songs? Maybe like “ keep on lying” but the chorus could sell mastercards or air bnb‘a pretty easily.
