well, first she receives Mysterious Letter from the dead dude's brother even though nobody knows where she lives. she's suspicious for about 1.5 seconds and it's never mentioned again.

second, if i was convinced someone had broken into and was still inside my house and then i heard and saw the front door open with the chain still swinging, i might mention that to somebody instead of going back to bed. and also if there then was clearly a ghost/invisible man in my bedroom, i might wake up the other person in the bed with me so that they could see what was up

then the ridiculous email confrontation with her sister, then the incident where she strikes the kid while standing halfway across the room. all her loved ones magically become assholes slamming doors in her face after 15 seconds without even listening. and it doesn't help that she only ever tries to explain things by screaming hysterically. i get she has ptsd but she's alternately lucid and capable/completely unhinged and irrational depending on what the script needs her to be

maybe nitpicky for a horror movie but the pulpiness really undermined the potential heft of the subtext and was totally at odds with the clinical visual tone

if nothing else though id watch the shit out of The Invisible Woman w elisabeth moss doing an old school explotation revenge flick taking out a bunch of creepsToggle Spoiler

my son and I watched the new version of the grudge last night. its often real dumb with plenty of wtf moments, but we were entertained throughout. I've never seen the earlier u.s. grudge or its japanese source material

Over the past couple years of Spooktober I've just started logging all my horror watches semi-seasonally. Oct/Nov/Dec all get their own categories, New Year's Winter Watchlist is from Jan 1 til March 21. Probably gonna kick off Spring with finally watching Nick Cage Wicker Man, but damn pretty good Winter

1. The Grudge (earlier US, I liked it!)
2. Zombieland: Double Tap
3. Pontypool
4. The Shining
5. Possession
6. The Shining (1997)
7. The Lighthouse
8. Doctor Sleep
9. Hellbound: Hellraiser 2
10. Hardware (M.A.R.K. 13)
11. From Beyond
12. Phantasm
13. Ravenous
14. Phantasm II
15. Dust Devil
16. Nightbreed
17. Audition
18. Rosemary’s Baby
19. The Island Of Dr. Moreau
20. Color Out Of Space
21. 28 Days Later
22. Cabin In The Woods
23. An American Werewolf In London
24. Ginger Snaps
25. From Dusk Til Dawn

I think I can say I either loved or like all of them at least to some level except for Zombieland: Double Tap which might be one of the dumbest nothing movies I've ever seen

Yeah it's the dumbest movie I've seen this century, probably.

I wish I'd seen it in the theater, though, because I laughed so loudly when the knife cuts her sister's throat and then magically flies into her hand, and she catches it like a lightsaberToggle Spoiler.

On top of all he made, Stuart Gordon was a good fucking guy, too. Dude made a ton of money from Honey I Shrunk and continued making cool stuff and supporting other people doing cool stuff. That is to say, he remained accessible and seemed to genuinely enjoy helping other people achieve their dreams.

i watched psycho ii, classic 'poster is better than the movie' 80's horror, it tries harder than you'd expect, perkins is obv really good, kinda distractingly good in this context tbh, but it's balmy and fun seeing the same sets again

i liked the parts where dennis franz is like EY PSYCHO CUMMAWN WATAYA GONNA DO KILL ME YA PSYCHO CUMMAWN YA FREAKIN PSYCHO EY GET A LOAD OF THIS PSYCHO OVA HEAR AH...sick of these freaking psychos...
