oh so

i saw lion king a few weeks ago

a sentiment that i do believe is shared to those in this thread, i found it underwhelming. not bad per se, just really uneventful.

other than pad it with filler not found in the OG animated version in order to make a 2 hour lion king movie *while somehow still all but eliminating "be prepared?"*, this literally just played out as a live action word for word remake

i came out of this mostly enjoying the voice work above all else. loved the back and forth improv of keegan michael key and eric andre;. john oliver's zazu was very enjoyable as well. seth rogen and billy eichner were alright.

I just heard a spotify ad warning me I should go see Lion King "the way it was meant to be seen" before it leaves theaters.

I feel like this could go either way, but I’m sympathetic to any movie that tries to be the next relay-baton-holder after The Mummy (1999)

Oh, I hadn't heard that, but I like it.

Idk who should play Eric, he can't be too old. Hmm, honestly Eric is kinda a boring character anyway, this thing will be fine regardless of who they get.

this is the only remake so far that makes sense to do, and it’s the only one that looks actually good

I mean how it's a story that's only about people, and inserting Eddie Murphy as a dragon was tacky

the executives forced them to add the cricket too, just because Disney movies needed to have silly animal sidekicks or else. the directors/animators thought it was stupid

some of the songs were good, and it's well animated, but a straight wuxia epic is much more appropriate for the legend
