I guess by Brexit effect I mean since it’s become apparent how badly Brexit is going to go which in my mind comes after that election but fair enough.

I do agree that there are deep structural problems in the EU but I also think that many British probably underestimate how popular it is among continental Europeans. I’m not really seeing the EU as on its last legs as you seem to HA.

I find it weird how quickly people are willing to jump in and assert that Labour doesn't have an anti-Semitism problem when they wouldn't do that for any other group and also when discussing Corbyn people are so quick to point to the attacks he gets about anti-Semitism and how that affects his popularity when in reality if you're compiling a list of the reasons that swing voters don't support him I imagine that not doing enough to stamp out racism within his party is way, way down the list behind him being a socialist who wants to give our weapons to our enemies and he doesn't respect our Queen or our traditions.

the anti-semitism affects his popularity with people who are nominally on his side

whether you think this is centrists, neoliberals or blairites using it as a way to bring him down depends on how far into an 5-hour icke lecture you can make it
hahaha mad me chuckle that

like obviously there's a list in a tweet on this page but within that huge thread is particular examples of abuse as well as links to interviews with Diane Abbott where she denies the existence of any problem, and I do wonder how honest the assessment is that Labour would be better positioned among people who are nominally on Corbyn's side if he and other front benchers came out and said yes the party is full of anti-semitism and so we will get rid of it. and I struggle to understand exactly what people mean when they refer to "Labour's anti-semitism problem" which for many domumentarians of Labour's anti-semitism problem is evident in Corbyn's presence at a wreath laying ceremony or some other would-be damning record of Mr Corbyn's politics printed in The Times but in other cases is evident in the position held by specific local party officials, or in questions of why people were allowed to be admitted as members or not expelled for some type of conduct, where the issue is not the leader's anti-semitism but rather what would seem to be his or his team's unwillingness to stamp out the anti-semitism of people (SWP types is how Wagner describes them) whose engagement in the party has been galvanised nevertheless by Corbyn's leadership, which has to this point at least been defined by a commitment to party democracy, and it does seem to me that it would and should be the responsibility of e.g. the Wavertree CLP to contest this guy's position as part chair as opposed to the leader of the opposition's role to dismiss him.

The anti semitism issue has always been about both the issue at hand (which I think is real and the primary problem) but also about Corbyns ability (or lack thereof) to control the problem and devise/implement the changes required. Corbyns non confrontatial style, the lack of party unity and imo a lack of experience/ability to deal with change means it just keeps rumbling. What is the strategy? Just wait for it to go away?

for the brexit-vexed non-UKers among us, this article was the clearest summation that I've read of the politics and the various binds everyone finds themselves in.

Dunno if the guy's analysis is right or not but it was one of the few articles on brexit that made me less confused than before I read it:
